Урок №67. Commas and Full Stops by Big Numbers
Неправильное употребление точки и запятой при написании больших (математических) цифр в финансовой отчетности, например, может сыграть фатальную роль. Дабы избежать конфузов, вспомним нескольких простых правил.
1. Comma is used to separate thousands from hundreds in writing like this:
4,567 (four thousand*, five hundred, (and)** sixty seven)
2. Commas also separate millions from thousands:
450, 382, 567 (four hundred and fifty million, three hundred and
3. Decimals are written using a full stop and not a comma. The full stop is called point. Before the decimal point, numbers are said together; after the point, they are said separately:
30.723 = thirty point seven two three
4. The use of the comma and the point can cause misunderstanding, because there is a different usage in other languages:
12, 750, 35 = 12 thousand, seven hundred and fifty point three five
*When such words as hundred, thousand and million are used after numbers or the word several you do not add a plural -s. So, pronounce 4, 567 as four thousand, five hundred, (and) sixty seven
** In American English you do not place and in such cases. In British English, it is used to separate the last two figures showing tens and units.
Am Eng: 567 five hundred
Br Eng: 567 five hundred and sixty seven

Возьмите документ финансовой отчетности или любой другой рабочий документ / таблицу с цифрами и в течение нескольких минут потренируйтесь правильно произносить их. Найдите отличия в расстановке запятых и точек при написании цифр на русском/украинском и английском языках.
